How this pickleball rating calculator works
This pickleball rating calculator turns a short self-assessment into an estimated rating on the 1.0–5.0+ scale. Rate your usual match play from 1 to 5 across serve, return, dinking, third-shot drop, volleys, court positioning and strategy.
The soft game matters most above 3.0, so dinking and third-shot drop each receive a 20% weight, while court positioning receives 15%. The other skills receive 10% or 15%. The two lowest answers are shown as practical next skills to work on.
This is not an official rating. UTPR is USA Pickleball's tournament-results rating, and DUPR is calculated from actual match scores; both require playing recorded matches and neither can be self-assigned. Players consistently self-rate one level above where match results place them, so use this result as a starting point for finding a suitable game. Clubs may require a verified rating for tournament entry.
Weighted score = serve × 10% + return × 10% + dinking × 20% + third-shot drop × 20% + volleys × 15% + positioning × 15% + strategy × 10% The result is an estimate from self-assessment, not a substitute for recorded match results or a club's verification process.
Pickleball rating calculator FAQ
Is this an official pickleball rating?
No. It is a self-assessment estimate. UTPR uses tournament results and DUPR uses actual match scores, so neither can be self-assigned.
Why are dinks and drops weighted most heavily?
Above 3.0, the soft game separates levels more clearly. Dinking and third-shot drop each count for 20% of the estimate, with positioning at 15%.
What should I do with my result?
Treat it as a starting point for finding a suitable game and identifying practice priorities. Match results may place you at a different level.
Why does the tool show two skills to work on?
It names the two lowest-scoring answers in your self-assessment. If they tie, the tool uses the questionnaire order consistently.
Can a club use this result for tournament entry?
Clubs may hold players to a verified rating for tournament entry, so check the club or tournament's requirements rather than relying on a self-assessment.
